Managing Partner Matthew Haverstick was quoted in a Billy Penn article discussing the recent legal battle between former mayoral candidate Jeff Brown and the Philadelphia Board of Ethics. Brown has sued the ethics board and its executive director Shane Creamer, alleging they maliciously attacked him and harmed his reputation during the mayoral campaign. For a Better Philadelphia, a political action committee, as well as attorney David Maser also are suing. The board claimed the political action committee violated campaign finance rules, but a judge later ruled that it had not. The lawsuit also alleges that the board knew its claims were invalid and that the legal action was filed to embarrass Brown and Maser, and ensure Brown’s loss in the primary.

“It looks to me like Jeff Brown was being targeted by the board, and I want to know why that is,” said Haverstick, who filed the suit.
