Kleinbard LLC litigation partner, Matthew Haverstick, will serve as a panelist at the College Athletes’ Rights & Empowerment (CARE) Conference: Visioning a New Paradigm of College Sport hosted by Drexel University’s Department of Sport Management from March 24-26 2016.  The conference is designed to examine the rights of college athletes more closely and whether those rights are protected.  Haverstick’s program will take place on Saturday, March 26, 2016 from 8:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. at Drexel’s Gerri C. LeBow Hall and will cover college athletes, the NCAA and due process.

Haverstick and his team recently represented Pennsylvania Senate Majority Leader Jake Corman in successfully suing the NCAA to revoke the NCAA’s “Consent Decree” and all accompanying punishments on Penn State University, and in defending the constitutionality of a state law directing the NCAA’s unprecedented $60 million fine of Penn State to fund child abuse programs in Pennsylvania.

Haverstick’s litigation practice focuses primarily on representing government officials and entities in the Supreme and Commonwealth Courts of Pennsylvania, as well as other state and federal appellate courts, in matters ranging from public corruption investigations to the Right-to-Know Law to the constitutionality of state laws. Haverstick and his team also frequently represent both private and public entities in white collar criminal and regulatory investigations.

In addition to his practice, Haverstick is active in the legal community currently serving as a member of the American Bar Association’s Criminal Justice Section and as the national Co-Chair of the Public Corruption and Extortion Subcommittee.  He also serves as an Adjunct Professor at the Drexel University School of Law.  He was listed in Chambers USA: The Client’s Guide to America’s Leading Lawyers for Business in the area of Commercial Litigation in 2015 and is recognized as a Pennsylvania Super Lawyer.  He is a graduate of the Fordham University School of Law where he served as an Associate Editor of the Law Review.
