Zegel has joined the Firm as Practice Leader of the Trusts and Estates Group and a partner in the Firm’s Business and Finance Department and that Brett W. Murphy has joined the Firm as an associate in the Business and Finance Department and a member of the Trusts and Estates and Taxation Groups.

Jennifer Zegel focuses her practice on the representation of clients in the areas of trusts and estates, business law, real estate and employment law.  She handles a wide range of trusts and estates matters including the drafting of wills, trusts, special needs trusts, powers of attorney, and health care powers of attorney documents.  In addition, Jennifer assists clients in estate, trust, and guardianship administration matters, and regularly advises business owners on a variety of issues, with a focus on succession planning.  A significant portion of her trusts and estates practice is devoted to asset preservation and distribution while minimizing potential tax liability on asset transfers.

Zegel has a special focus in estate planning and the estate administration of digital assets, which is becoming a fast growing and increasingly complex area.

Prior to joining Kleinbard, Zegel was a partner in Reger Rizzo & Darnall’s Estates & Trusts Group and Corporate Services Department.  She received her LL.M. in Taxation from the Temple University Beasley School of Law and her J.D. from Rutgers University School of Law – Camden.  Zegel is a frequent speaker and writer on the subject of trusts and estates and business succession planning.

Brett Murphy is an associate in the Firm’s Business and Finance Department and is a member of the Trusts & Estates and Taxation Groups. He concentrates his practice in the area of business and wealth succession, with a focus on tax-efficient planning. Murphy provides services to family groups, private business owners and their businesses, and related non-profit organizations. He has significant experience advising Family Offices, and understands the complex wealth, governance, and succession planning issues they face.

Prior to joining Kleinbard, Murphy was a manager in Deloitte Tax’s Private Wealth Group.  He received his LL.M. in Taxation from Villanova University School of Law and his J.D. from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law.
