Kleinbard, a Philadelphia-based law firm, is pleased to announce the election of Matt Haverstick as a managing partner and Julie Berson as a partner in the Real Estate and Finance group. Haverstick will assume the role of managing partner alongside Michael Frattone and Mary Beth Gray, as part of the final phase of the firm’s three-year management succession plan.

“We’re thrilled to begin 2020 and a new era at the firm by welcoming Matt and Julie into their new leadership roles,” said Michael Frattone, Managing Partner. “Both are talented, well-respected attorneys who have undoubtedly contributed to Kleinbard’s success. We look forward to another momentous year as Kleinbard continues to grow and expand its services to meet the evolving needs of clients.”

For more than two decades, Haverstick has represented government officials, private entities and individuals in high-profile, media intensive matters, ranging from major grand jury investigations to the defense of the constitutionality of state laws. Haverstick is well known for his ability to defend important government public policy decisions in front of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, having argued there eight times in recent years. He was also recently ranked in the 2019 edition of Chambers USA and was recognized in the 2020 edition of The Best Lawyers in America.

“Kleinbard has become synonymous with top-notch legal counsel and outstanding client service,” said Haverstick. “It’s an honor to be named a leader of the firm as we continue to solidify this reputation locally and nationally.”

Berson has extensive experience handling property acquisitions and dispositions, financings, leasing, ground leasing, condominiums and planned unit developments, where she has worked with multi-family, retail, office and industrial properties. Berson also serves as a member of PIDC’s loan committee, where she assists with the review and approval of their loans to local businesses, developers and non-profits. She was named a 2018 Pennsylvania Rising Star by Pennsylvania Super Lawyers and was selected by the Philadelphia Business Journal as one of the 25 2017 Millennials to Watch in Law.

“I’m proud to be named a partner in Kleinbard’s real estate and finance practice which includes a deep-bench of strategic and sophisticated attorneys,” added Berson. “We are well-equipped to handle complex matters, serving as trusted advisors to our clients throughout the entire lifespan of a deal.”

In 2019, Kleinbard capped several years of growth by celebrating the firm’s 80th anniversary. Since its establishment as a labor law boutique in 1939, the firm has evolved over the decades by expanding its services, investing in technology and growing to its current 34 attorney roster, with most trained at large, national/international law firms.
