David Hyman, a partner in Kleinbard’s Government Relations Practice, spoke with the Philadelphia Business Journal to discuss Philadelphia’s mayoral race and the potential for former Mayor Michael Nutter’s candidacy. Many business and civil leaders have reached out to the former mayor to see if he would consider running in the 2023 race, however there are already several Democratic candidates in the running.

“The field is chaotic and the civic and business leadership don’t like chaos,” said David. “They like predictability and stability, and right now that’s the furthest thing in this primary.”

David also noted that there is not a clear favorite amidst the business community.

“If you polled them, it might be split between five or six people,” David said. “So the theory is if Nutter emerged, it would clear the field and support would consolidate around one person.”
