Kleinbard Elects Mary Beth H. Gray Managing Partner and Edward T. Butkovitz and Joshua J. Voss Partners of the Firm

Kleinbard LLC is proud to announce that Mary Beth H. Gray has been elected a Managing Partner of the Firm and that Edward T. Butkovitz and Joshua J. Voss have been elected partners of the Firm.

Mary Beth H. Gray is the first female managing partner of the Firm.  She has served as a partner in the Business and Finance Department since 2012 and prior to that from 2000-2005.  She has been an integral part of the Firm’s strategic and succession planning, with a focus on increasing the number of female lawyers and taking active steps to improve diversity at the Firm overall.

Mary Beth practices in the areas of mergers and acquisitions (representing sellers and buyers), corporate finance, corporate governance, corporate restructuring, and executive compensation. Her practice has a special focus on business succession, including the sale of businesses to employee stock ownership plans (ESOPs) and other transactions involving ESOPs.

In her ESOP work, Mary Beth has represented companies, sellers, and ESOP trustees in all facets of ESOP creation and maintenance, including plan design, corporate governance, fiduciary matters, equity ownership, compensation issues, and tax matters.  Mary Beth speaks at conferences throughout the nation on the subject of ESOPs and is a member of the ESOP Association and the National Center for Employee Ownership.

Mary Beth currently serves as the Chair of the Board of Directors of Covenant House Pennsylvania and is on the Board of the CAPA Foundation, a foundation supporting the activities of the Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts.  She is also a former director of Emerge Pennsylvania, a political leadership training program for Democratic women in Pennsylvania, and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Harvard Club of Philadelphia.

Edward T. Butkovitz joined Kleinbard in 2012 as an associate in the Firm’s Litigation Department.  Prior to joining Kleinbard, Ed served as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Mark. I. Bernstein in the Commerce Court of the First Judicial District of Pennsylvania.

Ed has significant experience in all aspects of commercial litigation.  He has represented businesses and individuals in a wide array of litigation involving business torts, product liability, real property disputes, contract matters, shareholder and partnership disputes, business divorce, and insurance coverage.

Ed received his law degree cum laude from Temple University Beasley School of Law, where he served on the Temple Law Review and was selected to the Moot Court Honor Society.  He received his undergraduate degree magna cum laude from Ursinus College.

Joshua J. Voss joined Kleinbard in 2016 as an associate in the Litigation Department and a member of the Firm’s Government Relations and Political Law groups.  Prior to joining Kleinbard, Josh practiced at Conrad O’Brien PC.

Josh’s practice focuses on state government litigation, appellate practice, the Right-to-Know Law, and grand jury investigations. His experience includes handling appellate matters before the Third Circuit Court of Appeals, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, the Superior Court, and the Commonwealth Court, as well as several matters in the Commonwealth Court’s original jurisdiction. Josh also advises clients on interactions with state government, including advice regarding enacted or pending legislation/regulations, potential challenges to state government laws and administrative decisions, and responding to state government inquiries.

Josh practices in Kleinbard’s Harrisburg and Philadelphia offices.
